The Texas Veterans Commission: Reaching out Across the State

Texas has a long and venerable history as a state that recognizes the sacrifices made by servicemen and women. The Texas Veterans Commission is now in its 88th year as the state-appointed advocate for veterans seeking the benefits they earned for serving in the military.

According to a statement by the Executive Director, Thomas P. Palladino, “A veteran is a fellow citizen, a man or woman who, at one significant point in his or her life, made out a blank check payable to the United States of America for any amount up to and including life itself.”

The Commission serves veterans through four main programs:

Claims Representation and Counseling helps veterans and their dependents and survivors in all matters involving their rights and benefits. It represents Texas and its veterans at the VA.

Veterans Employment Services offers jobs to Texas veterans and helps employers find qualified job applications who have served, in an effort to match an ideal opportunity with an ideal candidate.

Veterans Education Program approves all programs for federal education benefits. It ensures that employers meet federal guidelines and are qualified to provide the training they offer.

Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance makes grants available to eligible nonprofits, local government agencies and veterans service organizations that provide direct services to Texas veterans and their families.

Other services provided by the Commission include initiatives for women veterans, news for retiree veterans and a veteran entrepreneurship program. To learn more about the Texas Veterans Commission, go here.
