Affinity Partner Spotlight: Lone Star Veterans Association

Here at Veteran Energy, we’re proud of the relationships we’ve developed with our Affinity Partners over the years. They’re all a big part of The Power to Give Back™ and our drive to help support veterans, military members and their families.

One of those partners is the Lone Star Veterans Association (LSVA). Based in Houston, this group was started in 2009 by combat veterans who wanted to help fellow veterans and their families in the area connect with each other. The aim was to provide resources and opportunities these men and women might not have known about or had access to otherwise. And Veteran Energy is honored to help support their cause.

This week, we caught up with LSVA representative Jimmy Moreland for a quick look at what the organization has been up to:

Lone Star veterans does so much in the community. How have veterans responded to those efforts?

It’s great to hear from veterans and their families. It gives us great pride when a veteran makes a career move, or when any kind of meaningful connection is made at one of our events.

Where does LSVA get its funding—is it all from donations?

All of our funding comes from donations—support from a company like Veteran Energy lets us know that we’re on the right track. We’re passionate about improving the lives of veterans and their families, and Veteran Energy’s help will sustain our efforts to that end.

And how are you all using that support?

We aim to continue improving and expanding our current programs—from career-oriented events like Warrior for Life to family support groups like our Veteran Spouses.

Plans for the near future?

Houston is on track to become the largest veteran community in the country. And we’re proud to serve that community. Our long-term goal is to perfect our model here in Houston and then begin to roll out to other major metro areas across Texas. Veteran Energy’s support moves us closer to bringing our programs to veterans across the state.

What types of resources help most? Donations? Volunteers?

Right now, we have a great group of dedicated volunteers. And we keep our organization lean and streamlined to make sure we’re using our donors’ money responsibly. But we continually seek new volunteers and new funding partnerships so we can expand and bring our programming to more Texas veterans and their families.

Anything else you’d like to add?

We’re proud of our long relationship with Veteran Energy, and we look forward to many more years of supporting the veteran community together.
